Professor Anthony David is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at the Trust and Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.

In 1980, Professor David qualified with Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Bachelor of Surgery (ChB) degrees from the University of Glasgow.

He then trained in neurology at the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, before psychiatric training at the Bethlem and Maudsley in 1984.

He became a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry in 1987, a senior Lecturer in 1990, and was awarded Personal Chair in 1996.


Research interests include insight, the neuropsychology of schizophrenia, neuroimaging and medically-unexplained syndromes.


Professor David is the founding editor of the journal, Cognitive Neuropsychiatry.

He has published several books, including The Neuropsychology of Schizophrenia (1994) with J Cutting, Disorders of Brain and Mind (1998) with M Ron, The Self in Neuroscience and Psychiatry (2003) with T Kircher, and Insight and Psychosis (2nd Ed) (2004) with X Amador.

He is also the author of over 350 publications in peer reviewed medical and scientific journals.
