Overview
Our unit undertakes assessment, investigation and treatment of adults with an acquired brain injury, including traumatic and anoxic brain injuries, stroke and encephalitis. We also see people with a primary mental illness diagnosis who may also have suffered a brain injury, and people who may have sustained brain injuries in the context of drug or alcohol use.
Most people are seen in our outpatient clinic. People are admitted for inpatient care when a community placement is not appropriate or sustainable due to confusion, disorientation, challenging behaviour, wandering and other cognitive deficits.
