Background

Dr Gené-Cos is the lead Consultant Psychiatrist for the Trauma and Dissociation Service specialising in the assessment and treatment of psychological trauma-related conditions including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, complex trauma and Dissociative Disorders.

Dr Gené-Cos is an EMDR Trauma Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing); Sensorimotor Psychotherapist and Lifespan Integration Therapy (LI) Consultant.

Other roles

Dr Gené-Cos is involved in clinical work, training, supervision, teaching and consultation. She has been the joint lead clinician in SLaM for the implementation of the NICE guidelines on post-traumatic stress disorder since 2003.

She has presented at national and international conferences and workshops on a series of topics including post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma, borderline personality disorder and brain electrophysiology in relation to anxiety disorders.

Background

Dr Gené-Cos completed her Doctor of medicine and surgery, LMC (MD) degree in 1981 at Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. Moving to London, she trained in adult psychiatry and neuropsychiatry at Charing Cross Hospital.

She became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 1999, and received her certificate of completion of training in general adults, with an endorsement in liaison psychiatry, neuropsychiatry.

She became interested in the area of post-traumatic stress disorder while doing her doctorate as a lecturer at the Royal London Hospital. She was appointed as a consultant psychiatrist at the Traumatic Stress Service in 2002.

Dr Gené-Cos is an EMDR trauma therapist (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing), and sensorimotor trauma therapist.

She completed her PhD in 2009 at the University of London in mismatch negativity in anxiety disorders (brain electrophysiology in post-traumatic stress disorder, non-epileptic seizures, epilepsy and panic disorder).
